In April, Apache held 71.41 percent of the Web server market, the survey said, with Microsoft at 22.83 percent. Apache's market share represented a 0.48 percent increase while Microsoft lost 0.71 percent. Zeus and Netscape held the third and fourth highest market shares. Approximately 15 million Web sites responded to the survey, which discounts "orphan" sites and counts only those referenced on other Web sites. In contrast, Netcraft's (netcraft.com) monthly Web server survey measures Web server software usage on all Internet connected computers. Its survey for the same time period had Apache at 69.37 market share and Microsoft at 20.54 percent. However, both figures represented slight increases from the previous month, whereas the Security Space survey reported a decrease in Microsoft's market share.
