Performance-based routing service provider Internap Network Services ( internap.com) announced this week that it had added voice over Internet protocol assessment and optimization to its professional services portfolio.
The company says the new services include network performance analysis and remediation, and are expected to help Internap customers keep capital expenditures down and improve their capacity planning and ability to negotiate service level agreements with service providers. "On average, 40 percent of voice calls over the Internet are below acceptable quality. However, most IT professionals responsible for managing the network lack visibility, and therefore can't measure and manage performance," says Greg Peters, chief executive officer of Internap. "Enterprises have been running VoIP over their private networks for years. Today, Internap is accelerating the migration to voice over the Internet via a combination of proven solutions and the advanced technical expertise required to remedy VoIP optimization problems."
