Iron Mountain ( ironmountain.com) announced that its intellectual property management business unit has gained ICANN accreditation as a registrar of domain names.
Iron Mountain's existing domain name client portfolio includes such companies as Allergan and Armstrong World Industries. Iron Mountain handles the company domain name records management functions, in which it effectively acquires, manages and enforces the use of domain names and other intellectual property online.
Achieving ICANN accreditation allows Iron Mountain to further automate this process, providing greater flexibility for entering new markets. ICANN is responsible for top-level domain name system management, as well as many of the Internet's other management functions.
"As an ICANN accredited registrar," says Jeffrey Johnson, senior vice president and general manager of Iron Mountain's intellectual property management business unit, "Iron Mountain will now be able to enhance its ability to directly insert and manipulate records with each authoritative generic and sponsored top-level domain registry, such as the popular dot com and the upcoming new dot eu, dot jobs and dot travel domains."
