Domain registrars that have expanded into Web hosting have demonstrated exceptionally strong growth rates, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft's ( netcraft.com) hosting provider switching analysis.
Go Daddy (godaddy.com), which entered the hosting market in July of 2003, grew at a rate of 76.7 percent, adding a total of 294,368 active sites to their hosting portfolios since January. With a total of 678,261 active sites hosted, Go Daddy is now the third largest Web host in the world, Netcraft says. Network Solutions (networksolutions.com) recently expanded its hosting line and grew at a rate of 148 percent in the same period, adding 36,905 active sites. Meanwhile, Doster (dotster.com) and eNom (enom.com) grew by 70.4 percent and 42.2 percent respectively. Netcraft says the strong growth for domain registrars reinforces the importance of domains and has led pure-play hosts to feature domain services more prominently in their businesses.
