Sun Microsystems ( sun.com) announced this week that it had released Sun N1 System Manager and updated the Sun N1 Service Provisioning System, solutions the company says will simplify the management of data center servers and business services.
Sun N1 System Manager is a tool for managing large and small installations of Sun Systems, including Sun's x64 servers. The solution provides remote management and monitoring capabilities, provisioning and re-provisioning of operating systems, and discovery and organizational capabilities. The Sun N1 Service Provisioning System simplifies application lifecycle management by provisioning business services that span multiple tiers- J2EE application servers, Web servers, and databases – and across heterogeneous environments. The updated version includes an application library and remote operating system provisioning for Solaris, Windows and Linux platforms. "Sun's N1 software tools are making it easier for organizations to manage the complex systems that deliver their business services," says Tom Goguen, vice president of product marketing and operating platforms at Sun. "With Sun N1 System Manager and Sun N1 Service Provision System, companies can now control the entire stack from bare-metal system through OS to applications and business services." Sun N1 System Manager pricing starts at $299 per managed server. The N1 Service Provisioning System starts at $1400 per managed server.
