Content delivery network operator and streaming media solutions provider VitalStream (vitalstream.com) announced on Monday that it had acquired Playstream (playstream.com), a provider of small business streaming media services for $500,000 in cash and 3.75 million shares of VitalStream common stock. VitalStream says the acquisition enables it to expand its streaming platform for the small business, home office and reseller markets. A new service targeting this market segment and combining technology from both companies will be marketed under the Playstream brand. "The addition of the PlayStream product line fits perfectly with our strategy of investment and innovation in streaming technologies within our key target markets. Our goal is to leverage acquisitions to bolster our current product offering and customer base," says Philip N. Kaplan, president and chief operating officer of VitalStream. "Combining our technical expertise will provide customers with an affordable, automated streaming platform that makes it simple for any business to manage its digital content." George Grubb, founder of PlayStream, will become the vice president and general manager of the PlayStream division at VitalStream.
