how I got started

I didn't have the money to spend $30 per month because my site was fairly new. i went with hostgator and signed up with the cheapest package. My site is getting about 5000 unique per month and still doing okay. So my recommendation is to simply start small because you don't want to waste your money with expensive web hosting packages. If you are worried about backup, just download your site backup every weekend to your computer. I think if i start to get a lot of traffic, i'll just move up to vps or dedicated server ;D - Lee

I think webhostingpad should be listed as a good small business hosting provider. I signed up with them and so far things are going really well. I don't have a big e-commerce site yet but hopefully i'll get there someday. - Ed

Most offer manual backup

most of the web hosting companies that are using cpanel give you the option to manually download the backup file to your computer or remote ftp but I can understand for business sites backups plays a very crucial role and they need to be automated. - Jacob
